This ongoing series seeks to push the perceived limits of physical space through the language of sculptural abstraction. The specific conditions presented by the site dictate the installations form, scaling, and placement decisions. These temporal works use string to record my own trajectory with the formal composition of the piece determined by the various physical constraints of the site. I recognize destructions role in the process of construction, and use the repetition of obsessive actions to activate the subject.
97.64”x40” is a site specific installation which was composed at Bolsky Gallery, Otis in Los Angeles . The title is the exit door dimensions. It was comprised of over 45000 yards of plastic cord and 15000 staples. The accumulation of independently weak materials such as strings and staples unite, forming a sculptural intervention within the space. The strings created a tension, challenging the strength of the wall, eventually causing the dry wall to break under the pressure.
